Motor specs mirror

Let's look at the original Fiat 500 specifications. If we want to make a conversion is good to stay close to the original configurations.

Original ICE

POWER: 13-20 hp

RPMs: 4400-4600

TORQUE POWER: 280Kg/cm  or 27N/m

MAX SPEED: 95 Km/h (59 Mph)

CAR MASS: 500 Kg ~

ENGINE MASS: 60~ Kg

FUEL TANK HOLDS 22 Litres + Tank weight

Potential electric motor

POWER: 10-15 Kw

RPMs: 4200 (Curtis AC20), 5000 (Mahle 14kw), 7500 (Shinegle), 10000 (Siemens 67 kw),  8000(ME1507) Note: motors come with different weight, some times quite heavy, be aware.

TORTQUE: 70N/m (Mahle), 93N/m(Curtis), 160 N/m (Siemens), 134N/m ME1507

MOTOR MASS: varies, 27 Kg (Curtis) – Update: I have now opted for a ME1507 weights 21.6Kg.

Caveat 1

When you look at Mass I have noticed there are some nice motors out in the market that have a considerable power but their weight is twice the weight of some other alternatives. So keep weight in consideration.

Caveat 2

If you pan to drive only in and around towns there is a speed limit at 30-40 Mph (50Km/h) consider lower top speeds for your conversion.

Caveat 3

Not all motors will fit in size. The original motor measures 34 Cm ~  from the transmission housing bell to the rear most point.
